Information Analyst / ETL Developer
Preyra Solutions Group (PSG) is an established health care consulting, data science and research firm. We seek promising candidates to join our Toronto based team on a permanent part or full time basis.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
The PSG Information Analyst / ETL Developer is a core member of an interdisciplinary team that uses data to find ways to improve health care. Our clients and partners include Ministries of Health, Health Regions, Hospitals, Agencies, Consulting Firms and Universities.
Your responsibilities will be to:
- become familiar with the relevant data sets and health care concepts
- work with data from various sources including: clinical and financial health care databases, census statistics, population, geospatial, and others
- convert between data formats (CSV, flat file, Excel, SAS, html, pdf, shapefile), character sets and encodings; transform and normalize; and otherwise prepare data for loading into a database
- run transformation code in SAS and python to add additional computed variables to data sets
- write data request specifications to send to PSG's clients; administer our client file-transfer portal; and maintain an inventory of data by client, project, data set, and date
- develop validation scripts, both automated and manual, to ensure data is complete and values conform to expectations based on historical averages
- suggest and implement improvements to the data models, field naming and other aspects of our database
- archive data sets
- develop and maintain documentation about table structures, field values, data limitations, etc. for PSG's analysts
- support PSG's analysts with technical problems and query efficiency
As you progress, you will develop other internal tools and prepare summaries and exhibits for internal use and client projects.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Candidates must be analytical thinkers, clear communicators, and adept at learning new things.
Candidates should have demonstrated excellence in their academic or other pursuits.
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Experience with: Linux shell and text processing tools (iconv, sed, awk); regular expressions; vi; python; Excel; SQL (MySQL, PostgreSQL); SAS; R; DVCS (e.g., Git); data modeling; GIS
- Proven ability to work in high functioning teams.
